Cocktail Inspiration

This cocktail is inspired by my mom whos always been my guide Whenever I have a problem or situation I can not solve I turn to her for advice and after a good talk with her I manage to clear up whatevers bothering me A perfect example is the creation of this cocktail I had a lot of ideas and kept trying different things without finding the right balance so I decided to talk to her After that conversation I managed to clear my thoughts and understand what I really wanted in my cocktail My mom used to take a shot of tequila with me on my birthday since I turned 18 so thats why tequila is the base of this cocktail The mix of the other ingredients results in a flavor very similar to Huevitos candies which are my moms favorite I remember she used to eat them all the time A couple of years ago I decided to move to the US to grow professionally and its been tough being away from the people I used to be around especially my mom Not being able to see her in person and only hearing her voice over the phone has been hard But this cocktail brings back memories of her with every sip making me feel close to her again

Ingredients

  • 22 Ml. Licor 43 Original
  • 30 Ml. Espresso
  • 15 Ml. Honey
  • 15 Ml. Daristi xtabentun
  • 60 Ml. Tequila 1800 aƱejo
  • 18 Drops El Guapo spiced cocoa bitters

Method

Cocktail Preparation
  • Place ice in a short glass to chill it.
  • In the cocktail shaker, combine Licor 43, espresso, 1800 Anejo tequila, D Aristi Xtabentun, and honey.
  • Add 3 to 4 ice cubes and shake for 10 seconds.
  • Remove the ice from the glass and add three dashes of bitters to refresh the glass.
  • Discard the bitters, add a large ice cube, and double strain the cocktail into the glass.
  • Garnish with a star anise.
Coffee Preparation
  • Use 14 grams of Bustelo ground coffee for espresso
  • Make a double espresso shot
