Cocktail Inspiration

Growing up in Seattle meant that coffee can take on many forms, flavors, and preparations. An expression of my own ethnicity (Greek/Turkish), a guilty pleasure (Vietnamese egg coffee), and a little bartender magic courtesy of Licor 43 is what we have here.

Ingredients

  • 30 Ml. Licor 43 Original
  • 45 Ml. Metaxa 12 Stars
  • 30 Ml. Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • 30 Ml. 1 Egg Yolk
  • 30 Ml. Espresso
  • 3 Dashes Scrappy's Cardamom Bitters

Method

Cocktail Preparation
  • Add all ingredients into an ice filled shaker.
  • Shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds.
  • Double strain everything into an ice filled glass. Feel free to use a big ice cube or ice sphere if available, bonus points of you have a fun shaped glass.
  • Garnish with an expressed orange peel.
Coffee Preparation
  • Choose your favorite single origin or espresso blend.
  • Grind the beans well and loosely fill the portafilter basket of your espresso machine.
  • Level off the basket with your finger making sure there's no grounds outside the basket.
  • Use your tamping tool to compress the grounds (approximately 25-30lbs of pressure will do).
  • Screw on the portafilter and start pull the shot, stopping roughly around 27 seconds or when it starts to turn blonde.
