Sprogliato

By FREDERICK JACOBS

United States of America

I work at Corvus Coffee in Denver and we specialize in single origin offerings, I was attempting to use our single origin flagship blend to do a spirit forward, old-fashioned type drink, but I grabbed some bubbles and tried it and it blew my previous drinks away, so I went with my mistake and made it the perfect espresso martini antidote, light, balanced, and crushable, meant to be enjoyed post-shift by bartenders and baristas alike.

Cocktail Inspiration

My drink is called 'Sprogliato' taking inspiration from Negroni Sbagliato for a refreshing bubbly drink discovered sort of by mistake, alluding to the actual meaning of the word in Italian.

Ingredients

  • 43 Ml. Licor 43
  • 30 Ml. Corvus Dead Reckoning espresso
  • 15 Ml. Overproof cask aged rum
  • 15 Ml. Amaretto
  • 5 Oz. Fever Tree tonic
  • 4 Dashes Saffron bitters
  • 3 Drops Orange blossom

Method

Cocktail Preparation
  • Prepare Collins glass with large bar ice (rock will do in a pinch) and tonic water
  • Add all liquors and espresso to shaker over ice and shake vigorously
  • Double strain into collins glass, can use bar spoon to layer, and add spritzes of orange blossom and lime for garnish
Coffee Preparation
  • 18 g of coffee and 43 ml output of espresso. Pulled at 30 seconds.
  • Only need to use 30/43 ml, so use the 13 ml to taste and make sure your shot is dialed
